Questions and Answers

Can tickets be purchased at the on-site box office in the evening?

Our tours are conducted in small groups with a maximum of 40 people. If there are still available spots, tickets can be purchased directly before the event at the Visitor Center of Kufstein Fortress.
However, to avoid long waiting times or the possibility of an unsuccessful visit, we strongly recommend booking tickets in advance.

In which language are the tours held?

The guided tours are held exclusively in German. However, for our international audience, booklets in English, Italian and Hungarian are available at the Visitor Center, which cover the contents of all stations.

Where does the tour start?

The tour commences at the mountain station of the Kaiser Maximilian Panorama Cable Car.
It is sufficient to arrive at the entrance (Visitor Center Kufstein Fortress) 15 minutes before the start of your scheduled tour.

Can you travel by public transportation?

Kufsteinerland is situated along the international railway line Munich-Innsbruck-Brenner-Verona, making the Kufstein Light Festival easily accessible by train. Information about traveling by train at a glance!

Tip: After the conclusion of the first tours (starting at 5:00 PM or 5:30 PM), you can catch one of the many regional buses, which will conveniently take you from Kufstein train station to the surrounding communities.

Does the light festival take place even in bad weather?

Snowfall or rain does not have a negative impact on the quality of the projections; therefore, the light festival proceeds in all weather conditions unless there are extreme weather events.

Can I bring my dog?

Bringing dogs is allowed, provided they do not have a sensitive reaction to audiovisual stimuli.

What about accessibility?

For many centuries, Kufstein Fortress served as an impassable barrier at the entrance to the Inn Valley. Many years later, we are striving to make the castle accessible to all visitors. Please note: Due to the historical construction, it is not possible to access the historic site with mobility aids and strollers.

People with photophobia are not recommended to visit the light festival.

What should I wear?

As the tour mainly takes place outdoors, wearing sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing is recommended.

Is there an age recommendation for visiting the light festival?

Our castle is a gifted storyteller that knows how to captivate people of all ages. However, having witnessed the darker aspects of human history over the centuries, it also has tales of war and death to share. While these episodes are not explicitly portrayed graphically, those who wish to listen to the voice of the castle should be able to process such content. The extent to which this ability is developed, particularly in young visitors, is at the discretion of their respective guardians.

Does the light festival exacerbate urban light pollution?

During the light festival, the castle is illuminated with vibrant colors; however, the total luminance is lower than the conventional castle lighting using white light. Therefore, the resulting light emissions are not increased during the festival period; they are actually reduced. To combat light pollution and save energy, the castle has been shrouded in darkness from midnight year-round since 2022.
